THANKS, I DID IT MYSELF…
Away from the world of advertising, my home is my biggest canvas.
I’ve taught myself quite a few new skills to bring my (SOMETIMES UNREALISTIC) ideas to life and it’s definitely an ongoing project. Here’s just a few of my interior creations…
la isla bonita
It always bugged me that we couldn’t sit at our kitchen island. And replacing quartz is $$$. So I got crafty with polymer clay chips, and epoxy resin to create my dream terrazzo worktop.
the golden touch
I have never known an exercise as frustrating (and potentially health hazardous) as stripping a 120 year old radiator. I love her shimmery golden hues, but never again.
A grand floor plan
I wasn’t brave enough to tile a floor, so I stencilled it instead - tile paint, acrylic and polyurethane varnish.
sitting pretty
6 swivel chairs from a takeaway stole my mouse sander virginity and I’m never looking back..
banquette-ING ON A BUDGET
I wanted bespoke seating in this area, but I didn’t have the £8k (!|) I was quoted - so I set out building it myself.
2 IKEA Kallaxes, 4 sheets of MDF, a lot of foam, wadding, leather upholstery and about 5 million electric staples later….
getting trim
Spandrels. Porch trim. Decorative fascia. Whatever you call them, a lot of the other Edwardian houses in my neighbourhood had them and I wanted in! But could I find any to buy anywhere? No, I could not. Apart from one from South Carolina
So I set about making my own. I found these wooden children’s sensory rolling pins online and knew that they could look great with some iron brackets. It gives my house a little period grandeur and people assume it’s been there forever.
